A whispered prayer hangs in the air. This is the Parafia pw. Miłosierdzia Bożego. It stands before you a testament to faith resilience and community.
The Parafia pw. Miłosierdzia Bożego wasn’t always here. This spot on ul. Ateńska once held only a recreational field. Imagine Warsaw residents strolling through what would become sacred ground. In 1997 a decision was made. The existing parish on Saska Kępa needed reorganization. It was too large. This field was chosen for a new church. Construction began. A chapel dedicated to St Faustina was built. A parish house followed. Bishop Kazimierz Romaniuk consecrated them on September 6 1998.
The church itself the Parafia pw. Miłosierdzia Bożego was designed by Maciej Krasiński. Its consecration came on April 7 2002. A significant date. On June 29 2002 a decree established the new parish. Father Jerzy Banak became its first priest. The years 2002-2007 saw ecumenical gatherings. Representatives from Polish and international Christian churches met here for Ecumenical Bible Days.
Several priests have served the Parafia pw. Miłosierdzia Bożego. Father Jerzy Banak served first. He was followed by Father Zygmunt Podstawka Father Andrzej Dybek and currently Father Adam Galikowski. Each guided this community with their unique approaches their pastoral care.
The Parafia pw. Miłosierdzia Bożego is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a vibrant community. It hosts various groups. Al-Anon AA the Epifania Choir and many more find a home here. They are evidence of the church’s outreach its connection to the people of Saska Kępa. It is a place where people find solace a place of peace. A place of quiet reflection and shared faith. This is the Parafia pw. Miłosierdzia Bożego a living breathing testament to the enduring spirit of faith in Warsaw.
