Hidden atop the Kabaty escarpment, Parafia Ofiarowania Pańskiego whispers tales of faith and resilience. Right here at the convergence of Stryjeńskich and Belgradzka streets, this “church on the heights” has witnessed the growth of a community. Parafia Ofiarowania Pańskiego officially came into being in 1988. Cardinal Józef Glemp decreed its formation, carving it from sections of two existing parishes: St. Catherine’s on Służewiec and Saints Peter and Paul in Pyry. But the story began earlier, in the basement of an apartment block at Na Uboczu 2. There, in 1984, the first mass was celebrated. Imagine the scene: a makeshift altar, the murmur of prayers echoing in the unconventional space. This humble beginning, led by Father Włodzimierz Kucharski, became the seed of Parafia Ofiarowania Pańskiego. The path wasn’t easy. The city authorities initially resisted the construction of a dedicated church, even attempting to evict the burgeoning congregation from their basement sanctuary. Yet, the community persevered. Construction of the present church began in 1993. The cornerstone was laid by Cardinal Glemp in 1994, a tangible sign of hope and progress. The design, by architect Krzysztof Kasperski, evokes the solidity and grace of Romanesque architecture. Picture the three naves, the dominant main nave leading to the apse, the two chapels offering quiet spaces for reflection, and the bell tower reaching towards the sky. The church’s consecration in 2003 marked not only the completion of the building but also the culmination of years of dedication and faith. Parafia Ofiarowania Pańskiego stands as a testament to the power of community, the unwavering spirit of faith, and the beauty that can arise from humble beginnings.
