Gazing up at the Parafia Niepokalanego Poczęcia Najświętszej Maryi Panny w Pruszkowie-Żbikowie, a sense of history washes over you. This isn’t just a church. It’s a testament to time, faith, and resilience. The Parafia Niepokalanego Poczęcia Najświętszej Maryi Panny traces its roots back to 1236. Imagine the changes it has witnessed. The current neogothic structure, designed by architect Henryk Julian Gay, replaced an older 15th-century church. Construction took place from 1906 to 1914, under the watchful eye of Father Józef Szczucki. The church bears the scars of history. In October 1914, amidst the chaos of World War I, artillery fire damaged the roof and tower during the Battle of Pruszków. The subsequent rebuilding process lasted from 1915 to 1922. The interwar period saw further work on the interior, tragically interrupted by the outbreak of World War II. During the Nazi occupation, the church tower served a secret purpose. It housed a weapons cache for the Polish Home Army. Decades later, in the 1980s, a powerful storm again damaged the tower, requiring another restoration in the 1990s. Inside the Parafia Niepokalanego Poczęcia Najświętszej Maryi Panny, remnants of the past intertwine with the present. A wooden altar from the original medieval church holds statues of St. Andrew and St. Margaret, alongside carved angels with outstretched wings. A painting of St. Roch hangs above a copy of the revered image of Our Lady of Good Death, originally from the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Joseph in Warsaw. This image holds a special place in the hearts of the parishioners. Even today, the church remains a vibrant part of the community. In February 2025, parishioners generously contributed to the “Package for a Little One” collection, supporting the Single Mother’s Home in Kraśniew. The Parafia Niepokalanego Poczęcia Najświętszej Maryi Panny in Pruszków-Żbików stands as a beacon of faith. It has witnessed wars, storms, and changing times, yet continues to serve its community.
