The scent of incense still lingers. Don’t you agree? This is the Parafia Najświętszego Serca Pana Jezusa in Warsaw’s Stara Miłosna. A place steeped in history. A place of resilience.
Before us stands a testament to faith and perseverance. The Parafia Najświętszego Serca Pana Jezusa wasn’t always this magnificent structure. Its story is one of fire and rebirth. Established on January 1 1937 the parish faced its first major tragedy during World War II. The original wooden church burned to the ground in 1944.
Undeterred the community rallied. They salvaged what they could. They found a remarkable solution. A wooden church built in 1916 in Rokitno near Błonie was painstakingly dismantled. It was transported piece by piece to Stara Miłosna. This remarkable feat of engineering took place in 1949 and 1950. The church was reassembled. It stood as a symbol of hope.
But trials were not over. Tragically in January 2006 this rebuilt church suffered another devastating fire. Yet again the community rose to the occasion. They rebuilt their beloved church. This time it was replaced by a new structure a modern building consecrated in 2016 by Archbishop Henryk Hoser.
The current church the Parafia Najświętszego Serca Pana Jezusa stands as a symbol of enduring faith. It is a reflection of the unwavering spirit of this community. They have endured war and destruction. They have emerged stronger more united.
