How about stepping back in time to 1923? That’s when the Parafia Matki Bożej Anielskiej w Konstancinie-Jeziornie was established. This church stands as a testament to faith and architectural beauty in the Skolimów district.
Parafia Matki Bożej Anielskiej w Konstancinie-Jeziornie is more than just a building. It’s a focal point of the community. It is a place where locals gather to worship and celebrate important life events.
The church you see today largely took shape between 1903 and 1906. Bronisław Brochwicz-Rogoyski and Władysław Kossowski designed it in the popular neogothic style. Their vision resulted in the beautiful structure that still inspires awe.
Initially, there was only a single-nave chapel here. Its construction was funded by people such as Ferdynand Szulc and Władysław Beker. In 1905, a construction committee appointed Bronisław Brochwicz-Rogoyski as the architect. W. Kossowski and A. Kryński assisted him. The Sikorski Brothers company from Konstancin carried out the building work.
In 1910, a new, taller tower was added. Teodor Gwizdalski, owner of the “Wersal” villa in Skolimów, funded it. A bell was installed in the tower at the same time.
As the number of parishioners grew, the chapel needed more space. So, between 1930 and 1933, it was expanded. Henryk Julian Gay oversaw the expansion. Some sources credit Hugon Kuder instead.
Today, Parafia Matki Bożej Anielskiej w Konstancinie-Jeziornie boasts three naves and a transept. A rectangular chancel completes the structure. Two diagonally positioned sacristies are located near the chancel. A tall belfry rises above the transept, while a smaller bell tower sits above a section of the side nave.
Notice the decorative facade. It features two pointed arch portals and a central double portal. A band of narrow, vertical panels adorns the central axis at the top. An attic wall runs around the building adding to the neogothic look.
Inside Parafia Matki Bożej Anielskiej w Konstancinie-Jeziornie you will find neogothic altars in the side naves. These were designed by the artist Maciej Wierciński. The main altar showcases a copy of Bartolomé Esteban Murillo’s painting of Our Lady of the Angels. P. Kossowski created this copy.
In the right chapel is an image of St. Theresa. In the left, you’ll find St. John the Baptist. Images of St. Anthony of Padua and Our Lady of Częstochowa decorate the side naves. Maciej Wierciński painted St. Anthony of Padua.
The stained glass windows are the work of the Białkowski company. A neogothic ambo was funded in 1935 by Dr. Henryk Jankowski. The Pomianowski family, confectioners from Warsaw, donated the neogothic pews.
