Parafia bł. ks. Jerzego Popiełuszki w Mysiadle

Tucked between Warsaw and Piaseczno, Parafia bł. ks. Jerzego Popiełuszki in Mysiadło started as a simple need. The surrounding parishes of Iwiczna, Piaseczno, and Józefosław were already overflowing. The growing population in Mysiadło needed a spiritual home of their own. In 2023, Cardinal Kazimierz Nycz consecrated a modest wooden cross, marking the beginning of this journey. He led the first prayer at the nascent chapel on Osiedlowa Street. He foresaw the rapid growth of the area and the need for a dedicated place of worship. Parafia bł. ks. Jerzego Popiełuszki became that place. Father Leszek Kwiatkowski, chosen to spearhead this project, had a rich history with the seminary. His experience included roles as caretaker, procurator, and overseeing the renovation of the seminary’s baroque church. Cardinal Nycz, recognizing Father Kwiatkowski’s capabilities, entrusted him with building a new church. It wouldn’t be a baroque masterpiece, but a functional and straightforward structure, serving the needs of the burgeoning community. On March 8, 2024, Parafia bł. ks. Jerzego Popiełuszki in Mysiadło officially became a parish. Cardinal Nycz formalized its establishment, and Father Kwiatkowski became its first pastor. He professed his faith and took his oath at the House of Archbishops of Warsaw, signing the decree presented by Cardinal Nycz. This marked a significant moment, not just for Mysiadło, but for the entire archdiocese of Warsaw. This is the first parish in the archdiocese named after Blessed Jerzy Popiełuszko. The timing, the 40th anniversary of the priest’s martyrdom, adds a layer of profound significance. Parafia bł. ks. Jerzego Popiełuszki joins in commemorating this anniversary. Daily prayers for the canonization of Blessed Jerzy Popiełuszko are offered within the chapel walls. A tangible connection to the blessed priest exists within the chapel. Relics of Blessed Jerzy Popiełuszko reside there, brought in by Bishop Michał Janocha on the 39th anniversary of his death. The new parish belongs to the Piaseczno deanery, becoming part of the larger Catholic community in the area.
