Pak Tam Au Campsite is surrounded by lush green woodlands. Imagine waking up to the gentle chirping of birds building nests. It is a haven for nature lovers.
Historically, the nearby Pak Tam Au village has roots dating back to the second half of the 17th century. It was settled by the Ho and Chan families. They journeyed from Liaoning province. Villagers farmed rice and vegetables. They also reared pigs and poultry.
Today, Pak Tam Au Campsite sits at the junction of stages 2 and 3 of the MacLehose Trail. It marks a popular starting point for hikers. It is also an ideal spot for training orienteering skills. Ngau Wu Tun is a hotspot for photographers. It is near the campsite.
To reach this tranquil haven, take bus 94 or 96R to Wong Shek. Alternatively, take minibus 7 to Hoi Ha. Alight at Pak Tam Au stop. From there, trace the second stage of MacLehose Trail towards Chek Keng. A short 10-minute walk will reveal the campsite entrance to your right. A 10-minute stroll up the path will lead you to the campsite.
Pak Tam Au Campsite offers basic facilities. These include barbeque pits, benches and tables. You’ll also find dry toilet pits. Stream water is available, but supply depends on the season.
Please note that the campsite is small. It offers fewer than 20 tent spaces. Remember to respect the environment. Leave no trace behind.
