Once a grand cinema showing films like “The Parisian Rag Doll” it’s now Teater Päfågeln. This isn’t just any theatre. Teater Päfågeln boasts a rich history. It first opened its doors in 1927. The building at St Eriksgatan 84 in Stockholm was originally a cinema called Päfågeln. Later it was renamed Ri-ettan.

It thrived as a family-friendly cinema. The interior was lavish. Think gold tones antique reliefs and crystal chandeliers. Imagine the plush seating the hushed anticipation before the curtains rose. It had a small lobby and a circular seating area. The walls were adorned with elegant pilasters and shimmering silk tapestries.

Päfågeln changed hands several times. It even closed for a while in 1960. The rise of television proved too strong a competitor. It reopened in 1968 as Ri-Ettan. A simpler design replaced the original opulence. The green walls provided a neutral backdrop for the screen.

In 1986 after more changes Ri-Ettan closed its doors forever. Then something truly remarkable happened. This time the location did not close for good. It was transformed. The building became the home of two theatre companies. Mimteatern and Mittiprickteatern joined forces. In 1994 Teater Päfågeln was born.

Today Teater Päfågeln hosts children’s and youth theatre. The stage is alive with vibrant performances. It shows the magical power of storytelling and imagination. The theatre also hires out the space for rehearsals. Its past is now an integral part of the present. It’s more than a theatre. It’s a testament to the enduring spirit of this unique Stockholm landmark. It’s a place where history and creativity meet. A place where stories unfold. A place where dreams take flight. So come in. Explore Teater Päfågeln. Discover its magic.
