Envision a small room. Eight students gather with one teacher. This was the humble start of Pacific Hills Christian School.
Pacific Hills Christian School began as Pennant Hills Christian School in 1979. It has grown into a leading educational institution. Today Pacific Hills occupies a nine-hectare campus. It accommodates over 1,500 students and 210 staff.
The story began with John and Robin Odell. Laurie Cowell prompted them. They envisioned a Christian school for all students. This included students with disabilities in regular classes. The school started in two rooms at Lutanda Children’s Home.
Growth marked the early years. Enrolments reached 41 students by 1980. Secondary education began in 1981. Pacific Hills integrated students with disabilities into mainstream classes that year. Dr. Edwin J. Boyce OAM became Principal in 1985. He has been a constant figure since then.
Pacific Hills Christian School moved to its current Dural site in 1986. That year the first Year 12 Higher School Certificate group graduated.
Pacific Hills utilizes a house system. The houses are named after famous missionaries. They are Jim Elliot, Mary Slessor, George Müller, and Amy Carmichael. Each house fosters community and friendly competition.
Sport is a key part of the co-curriculum. Students play rugby league, cricket, soccer, and more. Pacific Hills also offers the F1 in Schools program. This encourages interest in STEM.
Pacific Hills Christian School has sister school links. These connect students globally. Sister schools include Bethlehem College and Middleton Grange School in New Zealand. Pacific Academy in Canada is also a sister school.
The school celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2019. The school musical production of “Mary Poppins” marked the year.
Pacific Hills opened a Multi-Purpose Centre and Technology Centre in 1996. The first school musical “The Witness” debuted there. Enrolments surpassed 1,000 students in 1999. A new logo symbolized a renewed chapter.
In 2000, students participated in the “Schools in Harmony” event at the Sydney Olympic Games. Dr. Boyce received the Order of Australia medal. The school launched its first International Mission Trip to Kenya.
Pacific Hills Christian School continues to evolve. It provides a dynamic educational experience. The school’s history reflects a commitment to growth and excellence. It serves its students and the broader community.
