“Very beautiful hole” someone once said about Orleška jama. Today we will explore this hole together. But be careful because there is another hole nearby. It could lead you astray.

Orleška jama is not just any cave. It is a unique place that requires a bit of effort to reach. After parking your car as close as possible and resolving any conflicts you might have, you will need to rappel about 20 meters into a sinkhole. Caution is advised because a few meters require a vertical descent.

At the bottom of the sinkhole, you will find a hole in the wall. From there, you must descend another two meters. You will almost immediately stand on top of a very large pile of debris. In fact, the top of this pile forms the bottom of the sinkhole. Some hundred years ago, this place was probably still lit by daylight.

If you turn right here, you can first examine a smaller half-hall. It is beautifully covered with sinter but also thoroughly explored and professionally painted by numerous speleologists. You could easily spend two hours here. But you do not have to. Instead, you should go further down.

So, back to the rubble pile. Follow gravity downwards. The rubble pile itself is located in the largest hall of the cave Orleška jama. Once you reach the bottom, you can bend down briefly and then stand exactly where you want to be. Here is another quite large hall. It is completely covered and draped with sinter. Everything sparkles beautifully in the typical local style of white and gray. It is largely alive.

The hall is divided into two halves by an impressive wall of sinter. Behind it, sinter is everywhere. In front, sinter is primarily on the ceiling and floor, along with some lovely dirt. What hangs from the ceiling is something special.

If you examine the scree slope more closely during your retreat, you will find another half-hall. However, especially after the delights of the lower hall, it is not worth a photo.

Orleška jama is beautiful, especially considering the relatively small effort required to explore it. Its glistening white and gray formations create a magical underground landscape.
