Perhaps the most impressive aspect of On Tat Estate is its sheer scale. On Tat Estate and On Tai Estate are public housing estates in Hong Kong. They sit on Anderson Road in Sau Mau Ping. These estates form part of the Development at Anderson Road project. This ambitious project transformed a vegetated hillslope. It created approximately 20 hectares of usable land.
On Tat Estate specifically includes 11 blocks. These blocks contain a total of 9356 flats. The entire project intended to provide 16100 units. These units would house 48000 people. Construction took place from 2016 to 2018.
The Development at Anderson Road project included more than just housing. It provided essential infrastructure. Roads, drains, and engineered slopes were also part of the plan. The project cost HK$3.4 billion. It formally finished in December 2016. On Tat Estate and On Tai Estate sit at either end of the site. On Sau Road links them together. This road connects to New Clear Water Bay Road and Po Lam Road.
On Tat Estate also has good access to amenities. The On Tat Shopping Centre opened in 2016. It features a South Wing and a North Wing. The South Wing has 32 shops. The North Wing contains 8 shops. You can find restaurants, supermarkets, and clinics here. A bus terminal is next to the shopping center. Footbridges and lift towers connect to nearby estates.
Notably, On Tai Estate has won architectural and management awards. Microclimate studies improved building design. Coloring patterns minimize solar heat gain. Colors echo the topography of the mountains. The estate incorporates green features. These include a water-saving irrigation system. The estate also features robotics.
The On Tai Estate incorporates historical and artistic elements. Community art installations use quarry machinery. They evoke the history of the quarry. A geo-heritage plaza is also available. Visitors can learn about the quarry’s landscape here.
In February 2022, Chi Tai House at On Tai Estate was sealed due to COVID-19. Ming Tai House was also placed under lockdown that same month. On Tat Estate is in Primary One Admission School Net 48. This includes several aided schools and Kwun Tong Government Primary School.
