Rising above Sham Tseng, Ocean Pointe stands as a modern marvel. Ocean Pointe wasn’t always the gleaming residential tower you see today. The story of Ocean Pointe begins in the 1960s with the unlikely presence of a Union Carbide depot. This industrial complex hummed with activity, storing chemicals, warehousing goods, and manufacturing materials. Even a latex manufacturing plant opened there in 1977. But as the winds of change swept through global industry, Union Carbide set its sights on mainland China. The Sham Tseng facilities were slated for relocation, leaving behind a prime piece of real estate ripe for transformation. In 1994, Kerry Properties seized the opportunity. They acquired the expansive 99,388 square foot site and envisioned a bold new future for it. By 1997, their ambitious plans for Ocean Pointe, a 54-storey residential complex, received the green light. The first eager residents moved into Ocean Pointe in 2001, marking a new chapter in Sham Tseng’s history. Today, Ocean Pointe provides 560 residential units, a testament to its successful transformation from industrial hub to a sought-after address. It proudly claims its place as the 89th tallest building in the Hong Kong skyline, a symbol of modern living against the backdrop of Sham Tseng’s evolving landscape. Ocean Pointe is more than just a building; it’s a story of adaptation, ambition, and the ever-changing face of a city.
