Did the year 1052 hold a secret? It did for Obecní úřad Brázdim. That’s when this village, initially recorded as “Prisnin,” first appeared in historical records. The document? The foundational charter of the Boleslav Chapter. Obecní úřad Brázdim wasn’t one village but two fortified settlements. These were Velký Brázdim and Malý Brázdim. Malý Brázdim later became known as Starý Brázdim after 1777. A much later addition, Nový Brázdim, appeared in 1777. Today, Obecní úřad Brázdim houses not only administrative offices. It’s the heart of a village with a rich past. The village boasts a general store and two pubs. One pub is in Nový Brázdim, and the other is in Starý Brázdim. There is also a landfill site to the west, a container trucking company, and a cooperative farm. You’ll also find a volunteer fire department, a library, and a blacksmith. A children’s playground sits near a war memorial dedicated to those lost in both World Wars. And for the sports enthusiasts, there’s a football pitch. Obecní úřad Brázdim oversees a community that cherishes its traditions. These traditions include a vibrant carnival, Staročeské máje (Old Bohemian May), and a festive farewell to summer. A unique competition in fire sports, vying for the mayor’s trophy, adds a competitive spirit to the community. Christmas brings a special magic. There’s the lighting of the Christmas tree, complete with fireworks, and a special visit from St. Nicholas bearing gifts for the children. Obecní úřad Brázdim stands as a testament to this village’s enduring spirit. It has witnessed centuries of change. It continues to serve as the center of community life. Just beyond the village, towards Brandýs nad Labem-Stará Boleslav and Popovice, lies the Kuchyňka nature reserve. Here, amidst the overgrown ravine, remnants of an old quarry whisper stories of bygone eras. Legends speak of underground tunnels. Some say these tunnels lead to the Jenštejn castle ruins and even to Stará Boleslav.
