Established in 1850 as part of York Township Oakwood Village later became a thriving streetcar suburb. Stephen Rogers a significant figure built some of the first houses. Rogers Road a main street bears his name a testament to his contribution. He constructed one of the first houses on a large plot of land now near the intersection of Rogers Road and Oakwood Avenue.

Oakwood Village is known for its unique character. It’s a multicultural hub home to artists families and immigrants. The northern half nicknamed Five Points for the intersection of Oakwood Avenue Vaughan Road and Belvidere Avenue is a captivating area. The western section originally called Northcliffe is now known as Northcliffe Village. A portion of Little Jamaica borders the north side of the neighbourhood.
