Towering over the Ursynow district, the Oak Mieszko I stands as a silent witness to the passage of time. This majestic oak, a Quercus robur, is a true giant. Its trunk is a remarkable 864 centimeters in circumference, and its branches reach skyward, extending 18 meters high. It is a sight to behold.

The Oak Mieszko I is more than just a beautiful tree. It is one of the oldest living monuments in Poland, estimated to be over 600 years old. It has seen the rise and fall of empires, witnessed the birth of Warsaw, and endured the trials of history.

The Oak Mieszko I has faced many challenges. In the 1970s, conservation efforts were implemented. Workers filled a cavity in the tree’s trunk with bricks and cement. They added steel cables to support its crown. These actions helped to preserve the oak and prevent further deterioration.

Tragedy struck the Oak Mieszko I in 2019. A fire broke out in the tree’s deadwood, threatening its very existence. Fortunately, firefighters intervened quickly, preventing a major disaster. The fire, however, left its mark.

Despite the challenges, the Oak Mieszko I remains a symbol of resilience. It is a testament to the strength and longevity of nature and a reminder of the passage of time. Stand beneath its mighty canopy and feel the weight of history all around you.
