The Nusle Bridge. A towering behemoth of concrete and steel, a vital artery, but also a symbol of past tragedy. Look up at its massive structure, spanning the valley below, and try to imagine the lives that passed through here. It was back in 1973 when the imposing Nusle Bridge first opened, a grand feat of engineering, but sadly, also a sad moment in history. You see, its one-metre railings weren’t high enough for safety, and that fact caused a darkness to descend upon the bridge. In its early days, it became known as the “suicide bridge.” For many years, it was a place where despair found an outlet, a descent into the unknown. Luckily, in the year 1990, a safety net was installed, but it wasn’t enough. It took an overarching metal strip to banish the tragic history that haunted the Nusle Bridge. Today, the heavy atmosphere of the past is long gone, and the bridge stands as a testament to the relentless evolution of life and human resilience.
