“A symphony, a grand celebration, can you believe it marked the beginning of Nossa Senhora da Imaculada Conceição?” I ask you, standing here before this magnificent structure. The year was 1908. The small chapel, built with the generous help of the people from Estação Juqueri, was finally complete. Nossa Senhora da Imaculada Conceição was ready to embrace its community. The inauguration was a grand affair, a testament to the faith and dedication of the people. A band, led by the stationmaster himself, filled the air with the majestic Sinfonia do Guarani by Carlos Gomes. Dona Leopoldina Franco da Rocha, wife of Dr. Franco da Rocha, presented a treasured gift: a statue of Nossa Senhora da Conceição. This statue had journeyed from the former Hospice on Rua Tabatinguera in São Paulo, finding its new home at the Hospital do Juqueri, connected to the history of Nossa Senhora da Imaculada Conceição. Years passed, and Estação Juqueri blossomed into the independent municipality of Franco da Rocha. A significant moment for Nossa Senhora da Imaculada Conceição came on March 19, 1940. Bishop José Mauricio da Rocha elevated the church to parish status. This marked a new chapter in its story. Father Antonio Veloso Gomes took the helm, succeeding Father Luiz Assemani. Many priests followed, each leaving their mark on Nossa Senhora da Imaculada Conceição. In 1946, Father Germano Brand arrived, staying until 1948. Then came Father Pedro Stons of the Sacred Heart Fathers. A procession of dedicated clergy continued, shaping the spiritual life of the parish. Father Francisco Jorge do Amaral arrived from Piracaia in 1949, followed by Father Pedro Paulo Farchat, whose time was tragically cut short by an accident. Father Alexandre Botinelli’s tenure, from 1950 to 1955, left a lasting legacy. His work was so impactful that the town square, Praça da Matriz, was named in his honor. Nossa Senhora da Imaculada Conceição thrived under the guidance of these devoted individuals. From its humble beginnings as a small chapel, it grew into a vital center of faith and community. It witnessed the town’s transformation, becoming a symbol of continuity and resilience. The story of Nossa Senhora da Imaculada Conceição continues to unfold, woven into the fabric of Franco da Rocha. It stands as a reminder of the power of faith, community, and the enduring spirit of the people.
