“Imagine a place where heartfelt welcomes meet year-round facilities.” That’s the Northern Virginia Baptist Center. It stands ready to host gatherings of all sizes. From small family events to large group retreats, it can accommodate up to 1,000 people.

The Northern Virginia Baptist Center isn’t just a modern facility. Its roots go back to the Northern Virginia Baptist Association’s organization in 1877. The Association sought fraternal connection and Christian education.

The idea for the Northern Virginia Baptist Center arose in 1947. Rev. Samuel B. Ross conceived it during a session at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. The Women’s Convention of Northern Virginia played a vital role. They purchased land for the center near Ordricks Corner in Fairfax County.

Increased growth threatened the vision. A new, more suitable site was needed. Rev. Luther H. Mills found a parcel of land near Gainesville. In 1952, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Lambert sold 23.9 acres to the Baptist Center Trustees for $2,200.

Construction started in 1957. Barracks, a dining room, and a kitchen were built first. A swimming pool followed. It was dedicated on June 25, 1960. The Ross-Penn Memorial Building pavilion was dedicated May 30, 1966. It honored Rev. Samuel B. Ross and Ms. Adeline Penn. Both were instrumental in the center’s creation. They worked tirelessly until their deaths.

Other improvements followed. The dining facility expanded. An educational wing was added to the pavilion. The Northern Virginia Baptist Center continues to evolve.

Today, the Northern Virginia Baptist Center is in great demand. Churches, organizations, and individuals use the facilities for various events. These include retreats, picnics, banquets, and wedding receptions. The friendly staff strives to make every stay a positive experience. The Northern Virginia Baptist Center extends a heartfelt welcome to all. Whether for work, worship, or play, it’s designed to be the place to be in any season.
