“Ever wonder where tomorrow’s leaders take their first steps?” That’s Northern High School. Northern High School opened its doors halfway through the 1973-1974 school year. It stands in Owings Maryland.
Northern High School is more than brick and mortar. It is a community hub. It shapes young minds. It prepares students for the future. In 2023 Northern High School had 1553 students.
Imagine the halls filled with students. They are eager to learn. They are forging friendships that will last a lifetime. The school colors are red white and blue. The students proudly call themselves the Patriots.
Let’s step back to July 26 2016. The Calvert County Board of Education made a decision. They wanted to replace Northern High School. They awarded the contract to J.A. Scheibel Construction Inc. The project cost about $69382000.
The new building spans 244090 square feet. It can house up to 1500 students. Construction finished in December 2018. Classes moved into the new building the next month. The administration wing finished in the 2019-2020 school year.
Northern High School is also home to the Mary D Harrison Cultural Arts Center. The renovation of this center was also part of the project. It provides a space for creativity and expression.
The Northern High School offers a diverse and inclusive environment. The student body reflects the broader community.
Northern High School boasts notable alumni. Ryan Meisinger played baseball. Jaelyn Duncan played football. These alumni serve as examples of what Northern High School students can achieve.
Northern High School continues to evolve. It adapts to meet the changing needs of its students. The NHS Patriot Players present Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
