North Turramurra’s story starts with its Aboriginal roots. The name Turramurra comes from an Aboriginal word. It might mean big hill, high place, or small watercourse. Early settlers called the area Eastern Road. The name changed to Turramurra when the railway station was built in 1890.
The suburb became officially known as North Turramurra on August 5, 1994. Before that it was simply part of Turramurra.
Samuel King, born in Ireland, contributed to North Turramurra. He established orchards along Bobbin Head Road. King was a strong supporter of the local church and community.
Eccleston du Faur played a vital role in the area’s development. He secured land for Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. This park was established in 1894.
