Whispers of history surround Normandale School. This unassuming building holds stories spanning decades. Normandale School first opened its doors in 1911 a simple one-room structure. It stood proudly on the corner of Poto and Normandale Roads. This humble beginning was far from the school we see today. The original school closed in 1937. Its student roll dwindled to just seven.

But the spirit of Normandale School lived on. In February 1969 a brand new school was born. Imagine the excitement a four-class infant block two classrooms an administration building. Even a dental clinic and boiler room existed. Fifteen-six students and five teachers filled the bright new halls. Parents eagerly helped unpack desks chairs and books. Everything was fresh and new.

The school flourished. It expanded to ten classrooms. A hall after-school facilities a modern library and an adventure playground were added. Today Normandale School boasts 180 students eight full-time teachers. Three part-time teachers a SENCO an office manager a bursar four support staff and a caretaker work together.

A school inspector in 1972 noted the remarkable cooperation among the staff. He praised the children’s courtesy and behavior. The first principal Terry Barrett remembers the founding pupils. They handled phones showed visitors around. Their enthusiasm and responsibility were hallmarks of the school. This tradition continues. Current students achieve highly show leadership and possess a passion for learning.

The strong community spirit remains. The Friends of Normandale School thrive. The school enjoys tremendous community support. While teaching tools have evolved from chalkboards to e-learning some things remain unchanged. Excellence in literacy and numeracy are still valued. Respect creativity and perseverance are also important values. The school continues to create happy memories for students families and staff. Normandale School truly is the heart of its community.
