From airplane engines to electric cars? NISSAN Prince Tokyo embodies this surprising evolution. We stand before a dealership representing a marque woven into the fabric of Japanese automotive history. NISSAN Prince Tokyo carries the legacy of a company that began not with cars, but with soaring ambitions in the sky. The roots of NISSAN Prince Tokyo lie in the Tachikawa Aircraft Company. They built airplanes for the Japanese Army during World War II, including the Ki-36, Ki-55, and Ki-74. After the war, Tachikawa transformed into Fuji Precision Industries, venturing into diverse fields. In a surprising move, they produced the Tama electric car in 1946. This venture eventually led to the birth of the Prince Motor Company in 1952, named in honor of Crown Prince Akihito. The Prince Motor Company, a precursor to NISSAN Prince Tokyo, was known for its luxury and performance vehicles. The Prince Skyline and Gloria, later incorporated into the Nissan lineup, stand as testaments to this legacy. Interestingly, Prince also developed the 15-passenger Homy, later shared with the Nissan Caravan. They even dabbled in a compact luxury sedan, the Nissan Laurel, based on the Skyline platform. Prince’s innovative spirit extended to small cars. They began designing a competitor for the Toyota Corolla and Nissan Sunny. This design, after the merger with Nissan in 1966, was introduced as the front-wheel-drive Nissan Cherry. NISSAN Prince Tokyo represents a fascinating journey of transformation and innovation. From the skies to the streets, the spirit of Prince, now part of the Nissan legacy, continues to drive the automotive world forward.
