Have you ever stumbled upon a hidden gem? Ngau Wu Tun, a peak reaching 263 meters high, is such a gem. It’s nestled within the Ma On Shan Country Park in Hong Kong, offering stunning views and an easy, refreshing hike to Ngau Wu Reservoir. Ngau Wu Tun isn’t your typical tourist spot. It’s a quiet escape, a chance to connect with nature. The hike begins near Ma On Shan MTR station. You’ll walk uphill, passing Kam Ying Court Estate before finding the trailhead. The reservoir is a captivating sight. The turquoise water mirrors the sky, creating a tranquil scene. A small waterfall spills into the reservoir on one side, while the Ma On Shan cityscape stretches out on the other. Ngau Wu Reservoir is a historical artifact. It was built in the 1960s, not by the Water Supplies Department, but to supply water to a children’s home. This home has since become the Wu Kai Sha Youth Village. The reservoir is fed by Ngau Wu Stream, which originates near the Hunch Backs. Its water levels fluctuate with the rainfall. From Ngau Wu Tun near the reservoir, the stream continues upwards, eventually joining the Goose Valley Lost Trail. This trail winds between Tiu Shau Ngam and Ma Mei Ridge, offering further hiking adventures for the intrepid.
