The New Mexico Military Museum has a rich history. It started as the Bataan Memorial Museum. This honored those in the Bataan Death March. The building itself has connections to this event. Later, it became the National Guard Museum. This recognized the National Guard’s presence there. Finally, it broadened its scope. It became the New Mexico Military Museum for more inclusivity.
The New Mexico Military Museum resides in the Old Santa Fe Armory. This armory is on the National Register of Historic Places. It was the second armory in Santa Fe. Battery C of the 200th Coast Artillery called it home. This battery defended the Philippines and endured the Bataan Death March. The location also served as New Mexico’s induction center during World War II.
Inside the New Mexico Military Museum, exhibits tell powerful stories. One exhibit focuses on the Battle of Glorieta Pass. An interactive touchscreen display brings it to life. Another showcases art by and about veterans. These artworks express military experiences and history. They offer both abstract and realistic interpretations.

He was a veteran artist and Bataan POW survivor. It features his 2-D artworks and a sculpture. These are called Portraits of Palawan.
Outside, the New Mexico Military Museum has a transport yard. This yard displays items used by the New Mexico National Guard. These items span the last 100 years. A meditation garden is dedicated to New Mexico units. These units served in federal service for our nation.
