How about a church where everyone is welcome? New Hope Baptist United Church of Christ in Washington D.C. is just such a place. It stands as a beacon of hope and inclusivity.
New Hope Baptist Church’s story began with Reverend Kenneth H. King. Heeding God’s call he cultivated an inviting ministry. In September 2012 Pastor King founded New Hope. It was to be a place for all.
Initially, the church was a small Bible study group. It had only twelve members. They met weekly in King’s home.
By October 2012 New Hope had grown significantly. It began holding joint services. These were with Oaklands Presbyterian Church in Laurel MD. This partnership proved vital.
The church ordained its first Diaconate Chair Ron Akins. That happened during its first year. Several other deacons were also appointed. By November 18 2012 New Hope Baptist United Church of Christ officially opened its doors.
In May 2015 New Hope relocated to Washington DC. It found a new home at the First Trinity Lutheran Church. Maurice Mayo was appointed as the Minister of Music. Angelina Clark became the Trustee Chair.
After five years at First Trinity a new opportunity arose. Pastor King and Reverend Graylan Hagler discussed a possible move. Hagler was the Senior Pastor of Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ. They considered available space at Plymouth.
In January 2019 the New Hope congregation voted to relocate. They moved to Plymouth Congregational UCC. New Hope continues to worship there to this day. Pastor King is part of Plymouth’s Ministerial Team. Both congregations embrace each other. June 7 2019 was New Hope’s first service in the Chapel of Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ.
The church’s evolution involves its people. Their commitment to sharing God’s word is unwavering. Demonstrating His love gives true meaning to its name.
New Hope Baptist Church welcomes everyone. They worship face-to-face every Sunday at 1 PM. The sermons are Bible-based. They align with current issues and daily life.
Online worship is also available. You can join via Facebook Live every Sunday at 1 PM.
Pastor Kenneth H. King leads the services. He was ordained in 2005. King is known for his dedication to diversity and inclusion. He desires radical welcoming supported by the UCC church.
