“Does anyone know where New Hope begins?” That is the question I ask as we gather before this church. New Hope Adventist Church represents more than just a building. It embodies a journey of faith, perseverance, and community.
Our story begins humbly. Initial meetings occurred in a family basement. Imagine those early gatherings. Forty-five believers united in purpose. In January 1985 they rented the Cedar Grove United Methodist Church.
The New Hope congregation grew steadily. By 1992, the membership reached seventy-six. An average of twenty new members joined each year. Owning a dedicated place of worship became a shared goal. The church resolved to set aside funds daily for a building.
A pivotal moment arrived when the 5.42-acre property on Panthersville Road became available. No outside help was offered. Three church families stepped forward Assam, Davis, and Lassiter. They used their homes as collateral. In August 1991, they purchased the property.
The New Hope community transformed a dilapidated Butler Building. Skilled and unskilled members contributed their time and effort. Evenings and weekends were dedicated to the project. In December 1993, the renovated building became their sanctuary.
New Hope Adventist Church is more than bricks and mortar. It is a vibrant, multi-ethnic community. They seek to embody the kingdom of God in their daily lives. Their approach is relaxed and relevant.
This church shares the gospel of Jesus Christ to the community. They aim to strengthen families and serve others. Bible-based preaching, healthy living, and community activities define them. New Hope strives to be a loving church family. All are welcome. They worship God and prepare for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
New Hope continues its mission today. It supports outreach projects like the Food Pantry and the Garden of Hope. The church extends its resources to bring Jesus to their city and the world.
