Founded in 1973 New Asia Middle School stands proudly on Farm Road. Its story began with a vision. Mr Qian Mu the founder of New Asia College dreamed of a trinity of education. This would encompass New Asia College New Asia Middle School and New Asia Research Institute. His aim was to nurture students through secondary and postgraduate levels.
The school’s early years were humble. Only 14 teachers and over 300 students in eight Form 1 classes. Mr Sun Kuo-tung became the first supervisor. Mr Shu Tou the first principal. Four houses were established: Intelligence Literacy Discipline and Courtesy. Students elected their house members. A unique ‘Four Houses Joint Conference’ was created. This allowed students to plan school activities together.
Professor Huang Youdi composed the school song. The 63rd Kowloon Scout Group was formed. The Farm a school publication began. It provided students with a platform for creative expression. Mr Qian Mu himself gave a speech at the first graduation ceremony.
Over time New Asia Middle School grew. It transitioned from a private to a subsidized school. The number of teachers soared to over 50. The student body expanded to over 1600 students across 36 classes. Mandarin and ethics classes were added to the curriculum. A major reconstruction project was completed adding numerous classrooms science labs a library and sports facilities.
The school’s motto is Sincerity and Intelligence. This reflects the values instilled in students. The school emblem depicts Confucius and Laozi symbolizing the pursuit of knowledge and morality. New Asia Middle School continues to thrive fostering a strong sense of community and academic excellence. It has remained true to its founding principles upholding Chinese culture and nurturing well-rounded individuals. The school’s legacy is one of continuous growth and commitment to its students. Its enduring impact on Hong Kong is undeniable.
