Amidst the bustling city of Zurich stands the Neue Börse Zürich. It’s more than just a building. It’s a testament to the city’s ever-evolving spirit. The Neue Börse Zürich, originally built for the Zurich Stock Exchange, boasts a striking portal-like entrance. This grand entrance opens towards the Sihl River, inviting you to step into its rich history. The Neue Börse Zürich’s story began in the late 1970s. The old stock exchange building, situated between Talstrasse and Schanzengraben, had become too small. The canton, obligated by law to provide a trading floor, proposed a new building on the Selnau site. This area, once home to a monastery and various administrative offices, was chosen for the new stock exchange. In 1980, an architectural competition was launched. From 74 submissions, the design by Suter + Suter emerged victorious. Their vision included not just the stock exchange, but also public spaces with shops and restaurants. The construction, spanning from 1987 to 1991, cost around 113 million Swiss francs. The Neue Börse Zürich opened its doors in 1992. It served as the headquarters of the SIX Swiss Exchange until 2017. The building also housed various cantonal offices, including the district court and public prosecutor’s office. In 2017, the stock exchange operations moved to the Hard Turm Park in Zurich-West. The Neue Börse Zürich embarked on a new chapter. EF Education First acquired the building. They transformed it into a modern and open workspace for their Swiss headquarters. The former trading floor was reborn as a central atrium, 80 meters long. This atrium connects various spaces, creating a vibrant hub. The Neue Börse Zürich today houses training and conference rooms, open-plan offices, a daycare center, and a restaurant. It stands as a symbol of transformation, adapting to the changing times while preserving its historical significance.
