Initially intended for high-ranking communist officials Nemocnice Na Homolce stands before you. Its construction began in the 1980s. It was envisioned as an exclusive sanatorium. This wasn’t just any hospital. It was a state-of-the-art facility. Designed for the elite it boasted superior medical care.

Nemocnice Na Homolce opened in July 1989. It initially focused on internal medicine neurology and cardiology. A large polyclinic offered outpatient services. A comprehensive rehabilitation complex with a swimming pool completed the impressive facility. At that time it was known as the State Institute of National Health or Sanopz.

The fall of communism in 1989 brought significant change. The hospital was renamed Nemocnice Na Homolce. It became accessible to the general public. The focus shifted to treating heart and vascular diseases as well as nervous system disorders. The once exclusive sanatorium was transformed into a fully functional and economically stable healthcare institution.

Throughout the years Nemocnice Na Homolce has continued to advance. In 2003 a state-of-the-art cardio surgery department was added. A PET/CT scanner revolutionized cancer diagnosis. The hospital was the first in the Czech Republic to have this technology. An outpatient oncology department opened soon after.

In 2005 Nemocnice Na Homolce opened the first Czech robotic surgery center. Robotic surgery systems ensured the highest safety precision and control during procedures. The hospital continued to pioneer new techniques. In 2006 a system for detecting bacterial infections using DNA was introduced. Robotic cardiac surgery started in 2007. A Cardiocenter and Neurocenter were established the following year.

The hospital’s commitment to innovation and excellence is evident. In 2005 Nemocnice Na Homolce received international accreditation from Joint Commission International JCI. This recognized the high quality of its services. In 2010 it won the CEKIA Stability Award. It was named one of the 100 most stable companies.

Nemocnice Na Homolce has faced controversies. In 2014 several individuals including a former director were charged with corruption. They were accused of causing the hospital significant financial losses. The cases involved public procurement contracts. Despite these challenges Nemocnice Na Homolce remains a leading healthcare provider. It continually strives for excellence in patient care and medical innovation. The hospital’s legacy is one of transformation from elite sanatorium to a public institution committed to serving all. This modern facility has a rich history. It’s a testament to the resilience and progress of Czech medicine.
