Ever wonder what it’s like to be the size of Nemo?
Right here at Tokyo DisneySea, the Nemo & Friends SeaRider attraction shrinks you down. You become part of the underwater world. This simulator ride uses advanced technology to create a unique exploration.
Nemo & Friends SeaRider opened in May 2017. It replaced the StormRider attraction. The ride is located in Port Discovery at the Marine Life Institute. Here scientists study marine life. They needed a way to explore the ocean without scaring the fish.
Their solution was the SeaRider. It is a fish-like submarine that shrinks. This is achieved using a special material called Chiziminium. This material shrinks when electricity is applied. Cleverly, the name is a pun on “Shrink-amin-iam.” The SeaRider even has its own artificial intelligence. This helps real fish accept it.
As you board the SeaRider, you become “Sheila”. Sheila is a new character in the Finding Nemo/Dory universe. The ride is a motion simulator. It rocks and bumps in sync with the visuals on the screen. Think of it as a gentle version of Star Tours.
During your ride, you will encounter familiar faces. Dory might read Sheila’s name. Nemo and Marlin may also greet you. You might join a hide-and-seek game or one of Mr. Ray’s field trips. Crush or Squirt could make an appearance. Squirt might even playfully headbutt Sheila.
Depending on the ride scenario, you might encounter jellyfish or sea otters. In one scenario, you end up in a touch pool. There, Hank saves Sheila from Darla. In another, a giant squid attacks. Sheila’s tough submarine body saves everyone.
The ride culminates with either a flight across the sea with Becky or a stingray migration. As you return, the characters bid Sheila farewell. Then, the SeaRider returns to its normal size.
Each Nemo & Friends SeaRider ride offers randomized scenarios. This means different character interactions. It makes multiple visits worthwhile. The dialogue is all in Japanese. So, it’s a fully immersive experience. This attraction requires guests to be 35 inches tall. It is almost as far back from the park’s entrance as can be. Because of that its lines are slower to build. But once they do they remain steady until park closing.
So, get ready to shrink and swim. Dive into the world of Nemo & Friends SeaRider. Experience the ocean like never before. You might even make some new fishy friends.
