Over 4,000 performances have graced this stage. Welcome to the Nanshan Culture Center. It stands as a beacon of artistic expression in Shenzhen. This dynamic city borders Hong Kong. Shenzhen has transformed from a fishing village into a metropolis.

The Nanshan Culture Center is not just a building. It is a testament to cultural exchange. In 2007 Shenzhen’s mayor visited Budapest. He was impressed by the Palace of Arts. The mayor invited the architects to design a cultural center for Nanshan.

Gábor Zoboki and Nóra Demeter led the design. Their firm ZDA Zoboki transformed the area. The urban space became Nanshan’s cultural heart.

The Nanshan Cultural Center includes several venues. There are two theaters. The larger theater seats 1,400. The smaller children’s theater accommodates 350. There is also a contemporary art museum. An open-air theater enhances the space. A sports complex completes the offerings. These buildings surround a large fountain. A unique sculpture adorns the fountain.

The main theater adapts to various performances. It hosts operas and ballets. It also accommodates jazz and musicals. Conferences and banquets find a home here. Variable acoustics enhance each event. Movable ceiling reflectors adjust the sound. Acoustic curtains line the perimeter. Motorized stage extensions customize the space. A variable-size orchestra pit caters to musicians. A concert shell optimizes orchestra performances.

The Nanshan Cultural Center opened September 28, 2014. The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra inaugurated the hall. Since then the center has hosted countless events. Over 1,000 artists have performed here. More than 10 million people have attended.

The center operates 330 days a year. It opens for 14 hours each day. The Nanshan Cultural Center has served Shenzhen for over 46,000 hours. Its impact is undeniable.

Notably the musical Cats once graced its stage. It was performed in English with Chinese subtitles. The audience praised the hall’s acoustics. Even Hungarian poems resonate beautifully here.

The Nanshan Cultural Center is more than architecture. It is a gateway for culture. It connects Shenzhen to the world. It stands as a testament to Hungarian design. It enriches the lives of millions.
