Did you ever imagine a place where radio waves dance and television signals take flight? Here at Nackamasterna, two steel giants pierce the sky, whispering stories to millions. Nackamasterna, these twin towers, stand tall at 299 meters, dominating the landscape of the Nackareservatet. These aren’t just ordinary masts. They are the gatekeepers of entertainment, the broadcasters of news, and the heralds of information for the Stockholm area. Nackamasterna holds a significant place in Swedish broadcasting history. It was the site of the very first regular TV broadcast in Sweden, launched in 1956. Back then, two shorter, 193-meter masts stood here, their tops adorned with antennas for TV and FM radio. These original masts were eventually demolished in 1983, making way for one of the current giants that we see today. The first of the current Nackamasterna towers was erected in 1965, followed by its twin in 1984. Today, Nackamasterna broadcasts over 50 digital TV channels and numerous radio channels. It even serves as a backup for the main broadcasting hub at Kaknästornet. Interestingly, in 2013, Nackamasterna received a lighting upgrade. The old blinking lights were replaced with energy-efficient LEDs. While the new lights are less visible from the ground, they shine brightly for aircraft passing overhead, ensuring the safety of those in the sky. Nackamasterna, these two steel sentinels, stand as a testament to the evolution of broadcasting technology.
