“Can you hear the echoes of hammers and drills?” They resonate even now around Na Dědině. This isn’t just another Prague neighborhood. Na Dědině is a testament to a specific era of urban planning.
Na Dědině is located in Prague 6 Ruzyně. Part of it extends into Liboc. You will find it near Václav Havel Airport. Vlastina and Evropská streets border it.
Let’s step back in time to the late 1970s. Imagine rows of twelve-story panel buildings rising against the skyline. These were the main residential structures of Na Dědině. About 1600 apartments were built. Most had layouts of 3+1 or 2+kk.
The construction continued into the mid-1980s. Four-story panel buildings emerged from 1984 to 1986. They featured varied apartment sizes. There were 47 entrances in total. Family houses, a restaurant, and a kindergarten also appeared. Na Dědině was growing.
In 1987, the Delta Cultural House was completed. It became a local hub. It housed a health center and a veterinary clinic. There was also a restaurant, a confectionery, and a library. Even the police had a station here. Shops and a post office added to the convenience. In the past, there was a cinema with the Delta Club. Both buildings were renovated at the beginning of the 21st century.
In 2006, the Šestka shopping center opened. It is located not far from Na Dědině. It is towards Václav Havel Airport.
Na Dědině also has a strong sense of community. One of Prague’s oldest wireless community networks, Dedina.NET, originated here. It started in 2001. Due to domain theft, it was renamed. Now, it is part of the CZFree.Net metropolitan network.
Getting around from Na Dědině is easy. Tram lines 20 and 26 connect it to the city center. Tram 20 goes to Anděl. Tram 26 goes to the Main Railway Station. Trolleybus 59 goes to Nádraží Veleslavín metro station. Buses 191 and 225 provide further options.
Although a metro station was planned, it is unlikely to happen. For now, Nádraží Veleslavín is the closest metro station. Since October 2023, a tram line has been extended to Dědina. There are plans to extend it to Padesátník in the future.
Na Dědině represents a chapter in Prague’s urban development. It is a place where community and convenience meet. From its panel buildings to its modern amenities, Na Dědině continues to evolve.
