Once upon a time, music echoed through these very halls. The Musikgymnasium Schloss Belvedere stands before you. It is not just a school but a center for highly gifted musicians. The Musikgymnasium Schloss Belvedere continues a tradition that goes back to Franz Liszt. He championed qualified training for young musicians with high standards.

Early promotion of young talent is very important in music. Talented young musicians from all over the world come to the Musikgymnasium Schloss Belvedere. Here, they receive the highest level of training. The center is in the magnificent park of Belvedere Palace. It is located just outside of Weimar.

The entire instrumental training is provided by professors. Lecturers from the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar also teach here. Lecturers from the Staatskapelle Weimar and other orchestras contribute too. This gives students excellent insight into the music profession at a young age. They develop a professional attitude. They also receive outstanding technical training.

The Musikgymnasium Schloss Belvedere and the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar work closely together. This includes lectures by professors at the high school. They offer study counseling. There are also open days and specific projects. Besides the standard curriculum, students get in-depth music education. This covers music theory, aural training, choir, and orchestra. They also study chamber music, composition, and piano. This comprehensive approach promotes talent in all areas.

Annual awards and top placements are won by Musikgymnasium Schloss Belvedere students. They excel in nationwide competitions. Jugend musiziert is a prime example. These achievements are resounding proof of the Weimar model of success.

The Musikgymnasium Schloss Belvedere is a UNESCO-project school. Up to 120 musically gifted students attend. They are admitted after an aptitude test. They progress from 5th grade to general qualification for university entrance. Graduates receive a general Abitur. Students live, learn, and practice together in the school’s boarding facilities. They learn social responsibility in their daily interactions.

The Deutsche Bank AG gifted the new Musikgymnasium to the Free State of Thuringia. This happened during the 125th anniversary celebrations. The gift was given under the slogan “conserve old, develop new”. The Musikgymnasium had to move to temporary accommodation in 1992. This was due to the decay of the old historical buildings. The German Bank financed the necessary renovation. They also funded the new building. Architect Thomas van den Valentyn designed it.

Valentyn aimed for a carefully coordinated interaction between old and new. The area should retain its character. At the same time, it should meet the Musikgymnasium’s functional needs. He chose a clear separation of main functions. The former inn now houses the school administration offices. The former barn and stables form a three-sided yard. These were enlarged using historical outlines and materials. They now house the boarding school and refectory. The classrooms and concert hall are in the new building. The concert hall is shaped like an antique stadium.

The Musikgymnasium Schloss Belvedere continues to develop. It aims to be a meeting place for young, talented musicians. These musicians come from all over the world. Remember the dedication and passion that resonate within these walls. The Musikgymnasium Schloss Belvedere is more than a school. It is a beacon for aspiring musicians.
