Seeking a spiritual haven in the vibrant city of Cape Town? Mowbray Baptist Church welcomes you. Mowbray Baptist Church stands proudly on Main Road, offering a haven of faith since 1979. This wasn’t always its home though. The church’s roots trace back to 1903 in Observatory. It later found its current, larger home in Mowbray. The church’s location is noteworthy. It faces Roughmoor Road, with Devil’s Peak of Table Mountain watching over it. Mowbray Baptist Church isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a vibrant hub for a diverse community. Being near the University of Cape Town, the Medical School, and the Cape Town University of Technology, it draws people from all walks of life. You’ll hear a symphony of languages within its walls. English is the language of the services. But the fellowship before and after resonates with the diverse tongues of its multinational congregation. The church also extends its care beyond its immediate community. It actively supports missionary societies and individual missionaries in Southern Africa and beyond. Closer to home, it lends its support to the Rooiwal Baptist Church in the Northern Cape and the Noordoewer Baptist Church across the border in Namibia. Interestingly, the Rooiwal Baptist Church has a special connection to Mowbray. It was established by Mowbray’s senior pastor during his time as associate pastor at Claremont Baptist Church. Mowbray Baptist Church is led by Pastor Geoff Milligan and Pastor Joshua Lungu. Pastor Milligan, joined in 2007. He brought with him a vision of a conservative evangelical ministry. He enjoys the rich cultural diversity of the church. Pastor Lungu, the Student Pastor, focuses on student ministry and leading worship. He came to South Africa from Zambia. He pursued theological studies, earning a Diploma in Pastoral Theology and a BA Theology Honours degree. He’s now working towards his Masters in the Old Testament.
