Could this unassuming stretch of the Vistula River one day be bridged by a grand structure? We are standing at the site of the proposed Most na Zaporze, a bridge that has been a point of debate and discussion in Warsaw for decades. The name itself, “Bridge on the Dam,” offers a clue to its intriguing history. The idea was first conceived in the 1980s, linked to a planned dam that never materialized. Imagine a bustling thoroughfare starting from Augustówka Street in Wilanów, near the Siekierki power plant. Picture it intersecting with Wał Miedzeszyński near Chodzieska Street, then continuing near the Zerzeń cemetery, finally reaching central Międzylesie via a viaduct over the Otwock railway line. This ambitious vision for the Most na Zaporze, though captivating, never left the drawing board due to financial limitations. Despite this, the idea resurfaced in 1997, fueled by a desire to attract investment to Wawer. It became intertwined with discussions about the Siekierkowski Bridge, again highlighting the need for improved connectivity in this part of Warsaw. The dream of the Most na Zaporze, much like the river it aims to span, continues to flow. Whether it will one day become a reality, connecting communities and transforming this landscape, only time will tell.
