Picture a sprawling landscape. Rolling hills meet shimmering lakes. This is Montgomery Village. A planned community unlike any other. It’s a story etched in the very earth beneath our feet. A story of farms transformed. Of visionaries who dared to dream.
In the 1960s the Kettler brothers saw potential where others saw farmland. They envisioned Montgomery Village. A vibrant community blending nature and modern living. They purchased the Walker Farm the largest of many. It became the heart of what would be a bustling suburban haven. The Brothers Mills farm the French farm followed. The Patton farm the Fulks farm the Wilson farm too. Each contributing to the unique mosaic of Montgomery Village.
The first groundbreaking was February 28 1966. The first residents arrived September 25 1967. The Bartik family were pioneers. They settled in Goshenside a name echoing biblical history. The Crosby family joined them that day. Their new home on Whetstone Drive overlooked the newly created lake. This lake was no natural wonder. It was meticulously engineered. Clarence Kettler was so dedicated he had Lake Whetstone drained twice to ensure perfection. The island in the middle is a testament to this dedication.
Montgomery Village was not just about homes. It was about community. The Kettler brothers ensured this. They planted 10000 full-grown pin oak trees. A machine was used a rare sight then. This transformed the landscape instantly. The Village Mall opened in 1970. Today it’s the Village Shopping Center. The Holiday Inn followed in 1971. Bus service to Washington D C arrived in 1973.
The names themselves whisper tales. Walkers Choice reflects its rental origins. Stedwick recalls the meadow the dairy farm that once stood there. Seneca Creek reminds us of the Seneca nation who lived here long ago. Lost Knife Road harbors a legend of a Confederate soldier. He pretended to be a general. The story is fictional but loved by residents for years.
Montgomery Village continues to evolve. The golf course is being redeveloped into a new neighborhood. This new chapter preserves open space. It features an 80-acre park a dog park single-family homes and townhomes. The spirit of the Kettlers’ vision lives on. Their dream continues to thrive in this exceptional community. Montgomery Village a place where history and modernity meet. Where the past informs the present and shapes a vibrant future.
