Montgomery County Airpark is owned and operated by the Montgomery County Revenue Authority. The MCRA was created in 1957. It aims to improve and maintain projects for public good. The MCRA is self-funded. It does not receive county funds. A six-member Board of Directors governs the MCRA.

All services here are provided by a fixed base operator or FBO. This includes fueling and aircraft maintenance. The MCRA secures funding for the Airpark. It is responsible for the runways and taxiways. This funding comes from taxes on aeronautical activities.

Located just 17 miles from Washington D.C. Montgomery County Airpark is convenient. A short cab ride takes you to the Shady Grove Metro Station. From there, it is only 45 minutes to downtown D.C. A 20-minute drive will place you in Bethesda or Rockville.

Montgomery County Airpark boasts a 4200-foot runway. It has three instrument approaches. It is the closest jetport to the nation’s capital. The on-site restaurant Café Sophie is quite popular. It offers breakfast and late lunches. Its outside deck offers viewing of aircraft operations. Airport tours are available for schools and churches.
