In 1946, a seed was planted. This seed, Montgomery College, first bloomed at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School. It offered evening and Saturday classes. A small faculty of eight nurtured its growth under the guidance of Hugh Price. Montgomery College wasn’t destined to stay small. It quickly took root and flourished. By 1950, it had earned accreditation from the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. A significant move came in 1950. Montgomery College relocated to Takoma Park, merging with the Bliss Electrical School. This allowed the college to expand its offerings to include daytime classes. Growth continued. In 1965, Montgomery College expanded its reach with the opening of the Rockville campus. The Germantown campus followed in 1978. Montgomery College now serves a diverse student body with over 55,000 credit and noncredit students. It offers a wide array of programs. These include associate degrees and professional certificates across various fields. Montgomery College also offers study abroad opportunities. It continues to be a vital educational resource for Montgomery County and beyond.
