How about stepping into the world of academia? Here at George Washington University, we find ourselves in front of Monroe Hall. This building together with the Hall of Government overlooks Mid-Campus Quad.
Monroe Hall is home to several Columbian College of Arts & Sciences departments. These include economics, mathematics, political science and speech and hearing. Monroe Hall offers updated classrooms. One classroom has computers, SMART boards and A/V equipment. It creates an innovative learning environment.
But there is also a Monroe Hall at the University of Mary Washington. This Monroe Hall was founded in 1911. It was one of three original buildings. These were built for the State Normal and Industrial School for Women. This was the first form of the University of Mary Washington.
UMW’s Monroe Hall houses History, Geography, Political Science and International Affairs. It also houses Sociology, and Anthropology Departments. Murals by Emil Schnellock adorn the walls on the second floor. Monroe Hall has been renovated several times. It reopened most recently for the 2011-2012 academic year.
Back at George Washington University. The Speech and Hearing Center is in the basement of Monroe Hall. It provides a full range of speech, language and hearing services.
The Monroe Court is near Monroe Hall. It is a landscaped area. It has cherry trees and a central fountain. It is located just off Mid-campus Walk.
