The Mong Man-wai Building is more than bricks and mortar. It embodies a commitment to learning. Dr Mong founder of Shun Hing Group understood the power of education. He wanted to provide better opportunities for future generations.
Tragically the civil war forced Dr Mong to abandon his aeronautical engineering studies. This personal experience fueled his passion. He strove to make unparalleled education accessible to all.
Shun Hing Group’s cooperation with Tsinghua University has flourished. It started with the first donation of the Mong Man-wai Building in 1993. It now serves as the Centre of Student Cultural Activities. The Shun Hing Group has since donated five buildings. It also donated two research institutes. The total donation amounts to over HKD 400 million.
In fact the Mong Man Wai Brain Centre of the Tsinghua University Yuquan Hospital held its inauguration ceremony on 19 October 2015. Mr David Mong Chairman and Group CEO of Shun Hing Group officiated. Professor Jiang Shengyao Vice President of Tsinghua University also attended. Professor Yang Jiaqing former Deputy President of Tsinghua University participated. Professor Zuo Huancong President of Yuquan Hospital rounded off the group. Representatives from education and business were present too.
Since its start the Mong Man Wai Brain Centre has researched neurological disorders. The centre cooperates with life sciences and medical faculties. It integrates scientific research with clinical trials. The Brain Centre holds a nationally significant place. It successfully integrates medical research practice and teaching.
Following the ceremony David Mong shared his hopes. He looks forward to Tsinghua University fostering more talent. He expects improvements in human life quality. He anticipates elevated cultural quality. He wants a new generation of great minds to lead the world.
