“What makes this cave interesting?” That’s a question everyone asks about Mok Min Cave. This fascinating sea cave is in the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark. It is located in Sai Kung.
Mok Min Cave is special. It is the only see-through cave that is easily reached from Pak Lap Village.
When the tide is low, you can walk through Mok Min Cave. This makes it a unique experience. If the tide is high, kayakers can paddle through the cave. They can enter on one side and exit on the other.
The adventure to Mok Min Cave includes hiking. It also includes some coasteering and cave exploring. The scenery is wonderful.
Getting to Mok Min Cave is fairly easy. Start at Sai Kung Town Centre. Take a taxi to the entrance of Pak Lap Village. Follow the concrete pathway towards Pak Lap Beach. Be careful because there are warning signs about snakes.
You will pass the Pak Lap Nature Education Park. From the beach, it takes about 45 minutes to reach Mok Min Cave. The trail starts a few meters behind the beach.
The trail leads to an open area. There, you can see Pak Lap Beach and the coastline. The paths are obvious. The views are amazing. You can see neighboring islands and caves along the way.
The cliff above Mok Min Cave looks like a mini Po Pin Chau. Be cautious. Stay away from the edges. It is high and steep. It can be dangerous.
To reach the cave entrance, you must descend some steep rocks. Be careful. The rocks are sharp. Resting inside Mok Min Cave is a great way to cool down.
You can return the same way you came. Or, you can take a trail to the village. The paths are clear.
Remember to bring water. It can be hot. Good hiking shoes are important. Protect yourself from the sun. Wear sunscreen and a hat.
Pak Lap Village is surprisingly beautiful. It is clean and well-maintained. There is even a lavender farm near the entrance.
Pak Lap Wan is a small beach. It has fine sand and turquoise water. It is a popular camping spot. There are public toilets and a café. The café rents canoes and snorkeling equipment.
The trail to Mok Min Cave is 10 meters behind the beach. It is marked with a white sign. In 15 minutes, you will reach a clearing. You can see Pak Lap Wan Beach from here. Find the trail to Mok Min Cave on your left.
The trail to Mok Min Cave is pretty. The sea, coastline, and rocks create a beautiful landscape. The cave is at sea level. It is hidden from view.
The cliff at the top of Mok Min Cave is spectacular. You can see hexagonal volcanic columns. These columns make the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark famous.
Mok Min Cave is roughly 75 minutes from the start of the trail. The hike is simple. The view is worth it. You can feel the power of nature in Mok Min Cave. The surrounding shore is also beautiful.
