What if these old millstones could talk? What tales they would spin of splashing water, whirring gears, and the generations who toiled at Mlýn u Veselých. Right here on the Radotínský stream, this charming mill has stood for centuries, a testament to a time when water powered daily life. The first mention of Mlýn u Veselých dates back to 1666. A miller named Měchurka had journeyed from a mill near Chejnice to seek his fortune at this very spot. The name “Měcháčův mlýn” or “Měchurov Mill” stuck for over 340 years as a reminder of his ambition. But the story doesn’t end there. Over the years, Mlýn u Veselých changed hands many times, each transaction revealing a glimpse into the past. In 1768, it was sold as an inheritance for a considerable sum of 1000 Rhenish guldens. Just six years later, its value had more than doubled, suggesting significant improvements were made during that time. However, it was in 1776 that Mlýn u Veselých found its namesake when Václav Veselý and his wife Františka purchased the property. Little did they know their family legacy would endure for centuries, with the mill remaining in the Veselý family to this day. Today, Mlýn u Veselých stands as a museum, a silent witness to the passage of time. It’s a place where history comes alive, inviting you to imagine the rhythmic clatter of the millstones and the smell of freshly ground flour that once filled the air.
