Established in 1906 Mitsui Memorial Hospital stands before us a testament to medical innovation and compassionate care. Its history is rich. It began as Mitsui Charity Hospital founded by Mitsui Hachirouemon. This philanthropic gesture reflected the Mitsui family’s commitment to community well-being. The hospital’s original location was the site of the former Tokyo Imperial University Second Hospital.

The early years saw several name changes. It became Izumibashi Charity Hospital then Mitsui Public Welfare Hospital. World War II tragically impacted the hospital. Firebombs destroyed its buildings. However the hospital persevered. Reconstruction efforts began. Two three-story reinforced concrete buildings were repaired. Expansion projects added beds and space. In 1970 the hospital adopted its current name Mitsui Memorial Hospital.

The hospital continued to grow. New wards an administration building and a comprehensive examination center were added. The expansion included a special nursing home for the elderly and a nursing school. Today Mitsui Memorial Hospital boasts 482 beds and employs 245 doctors. It’s JCI accredited offering a wide range of services including cancer treatment and alternative therapies.

The hospital’s dedication to patient care is evident. Doctors and patients work together. They foster a sense of communication companionship and mutual respect. This commitment to exceptional care and dedication to community is Mitsui Memorial Hospital’s enduring legacy. It stands as a beacon of hope and healing in the heart of Tokyo. It’s a place where the best medical care meets a commitment to human connection.
