What’s a university campus without its quirky traditions? Here at the Warsaw University Library, we have Sławek, the Miś Uczeń, our very own bronze student. Since 2003, this friendly sculpture, created by Grzegorz Łagowski, has become a beloved fixture. Miś Uczeń, meaning “Student Bear,” isn’t your typical imposing monument. He’s only half a meter tall and designed for interaction. Students shake his hand for good luck before exams, sit on his lap for a photo op, or even give him a hug. He clutches his books and a magazine, forever frozen in a moment of academic contemplation. The Miś Uczeń statue is more than just a quirky photo opportunity.
