Named for James Milson Milsons Point boasts a rich history. Milsons Point is a suburb on the lower North Shore. It sits three kilometres north of Sydney’s CBD. Milsons Point also refers to the geographical feature jutting into Sydney Harbour. This point is directly opposite Sydney Cove. Sydney Cove marks the spot of the first European settlement in 1788.

James Milson a free settler from Lincolnshire settled here. He established a profitable business. Milson supplied ships with stone ballast and fresh water. He also provided produce from his dairy orchard and vegetable gardens. By the 1840s Milson leased land near Jeffrey Street. This land contained Milson’s orchard. He died at his home Grantham in 1872 in Milsons Point.

The last of Milson’s family holdings were resumed in the early 1920s. This was for the construction of the Harbour Bridge.

Today Milsons Point is known for several heritage-listed sites. These include the Milsons Point railway station. Luna Park Sydney is another. Of course the Sydney Harbour Bridge is also heritage-listed.

In 2021 the population of Milsons Point was 2529 people. About 43% of residents were born in Australia. Other common birth countries include China England and India.

Milsons Point is well-connected to the CBD. You can travel by bridge ferry or train. The Warringah Freeway links Milsons Point to both the CBD and Chatswood.

The Milsons Point railway station sits on the northern approach to the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The Milsons Point ferry wharf offers Balmain and Pyrmont Bay services. Buses also serve Milsons Point connecting it to the Lower North Shore.

Milsons Point offers a blend of residential and commercial development.

Luna Park is perhaps the most recognisable attraction here. It opened in 1935. The park features a huge face at its entrance. Inside you will find rides colorful stalls and eateries.

The Sydney Harbour Bridge is another iconic landmark. It opened in 1932. Pedestrians can stroll along its length. Adventurous travelers can climb to the summit for panoramic views.

The North Sydney Olympic Pool also calls Milsons Point home. It opened in 1936. The pool hosted events during the 1938 Empire Games. Its art deco design adds to its charm.
