Hurtling through the air, have you ever felt the thrill of a wooden roller coaster? Right here at Canada’s Wonderland stands the Mighty Canadian Minebuster, a testament to the golden age of amusement park thrills. Opening its tracks to eager riders in 1981, the same year the park first welcomed guests, the Mighty Canadian Minebuster quickly became a beloved classic. Originally intended as the centerpiece of a themed area called Frontier Canada, the coaster stands proudly in the Action Zone. The Mighty Canadian Minebuster was inspired by the Shooting Star, a legendary coaster from Coney Island in Cincinnati, Ohio. Designed by Curtis D. Summers and built in-house at Canada’s Wonderland, this thrilling ride wasn’t constructed by Philadelphia Toboggan Coasters, despite what some plaques and articles might claim. The coaster’s iconic trains, however, were indeed supplied by PTC. The Mighty Canadian Minebuster stretches over 3,828 feet of track, making it the longest single-track wooden roller coaster in Canada. As you climb the chain lift hill, anticipation builds. At the peak, prepare for a thrilling drop of 87 feet, reaching speeds up to 56 miles per hour. The ride then hurtles you through a series of hills, twists, and turns. It even dives under some of the slides from the adjacent Splash Works water park. Over the years, the Mighty Canadian Minebuster has seen its share of modifications, particularly due to its proximity to the water park. In 2025, almost 1,000 feet of track was replaced with a vertical engineered track system. This innovative approach uses vertically stacked lumber instead of horizontal plywood, promising an even smoother and more exhilarating experience. So, as you stand before the Mighty Canadian Minebuster, remember its rich history, its thrilling drops, and the countless screams of excitement it has elicited over the decades. It’s a true Canadian icon, ready to take you on a wild ride.
