Many of its artworks are scattered among the trees and paths, and today, we stand before the captivating “Mieszczanie z Bródna,” a sculpture that embodies the very essence of this neighborhood.
This sculpture is unlike any other. It is a complex installation created by Paweł Althamer and Goshka Macuga. The artists collaborated with local residents of Bródno, ensuring each piece reflected the community’s spirit. They used found objects collected from the neighborhood and incorporated them into their work. It is a testament to the neighborhood’s history and everyday lives. The residents of Bródno, the “Mieszczanie,” are truly the heart of this artistic project.
The sculpture’s vibrant tapestry of found objects offers a glimpse into the everyday lives of Bródno’s residents. The artists wanted to create a real-life experience, a “Biennale” of sorts, where the neighborhood itself became a stage for artistic expression. They organized a “biennale” in the park, transforming the neighborhood into a museum, utilizing existing landscape features and local infrastructure, like shops and parks, to create a truly immersive experience. Take note of the “Tea House,” a small sculpture in the park, it was created by Rirkrit Tiravanija, acting as an information kiosk, providing an insight into this magnificent project.
