A granite slab rests on a small shrine. This is the Miejsce Pamieci AK Garłuch Stone. It commemorates a tragic event. The event took place on August 2 1944.
This memorial in Warsaw holds a somber story. German forces discovered AK soldiers. They were from the III company Maria. The soldiers were in their assembly point. The point was located at Krakowskie Avenue 175.
The soldiers fought back. The Germans attacked using machine guns and mortars. The battle lasted several hours. The Germans failed to take the building. They then used flamethrowers. The house was set ablaze. Both insurgents and civilians perished in the fire.
Those who tried to escape were captured and shot. Their bodies were thrown into the fire. Around 50 people died. Eight were medics from the Maria company. This terrible event is forever etched in this place.
The Miejsce Pamieci AK Garłuch Stone was unveiled on August 2 1992. It was restored in 1998 and conserved in 2019. The memorial is cared for by Elementary School No 88. It is named after G Narutowicz.
Another memorial exists near the Okęcie airport. This is also dedicated to the 7th AK Infantry Regiment Garłuch. On August 1 1944 120 soldiers died. They died during an attack on the airport. A bunker with heavy machine guns was located here. After the failed attack the Germans killed wounded soldiers. This second memorial was consecrated on November 11 1994. It was renovated in 1999 and 2009. Another renovation occurred in 2019. Elementary School No 227 cares for this monument.
