Fifty-two years. That’s how long Culloden Mennonite Brethren Church stood on this very spot. Midtown Church now occupies this location. It’s a story of transition. A story of faith.
Midtown Church isn’t just a building. It’s a legacy. It’s the continuation of a vibrant community. It began in January 2021. The church is located at 6060 Culloden Street Vancouver. It’s a replanting. A new beginning built on solid foundations.
Culloden Mennonite Brethren Church closed its doors in September 2020. But the spirit of this place didn’t fade. It transformed. It evolved into Midtown Church. The congregation now thrives here. They average 150 people on Sunday. They are affiliated with the British Columbia Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches.
Midtown Church embraces its past. It honors the history of Culloden. The building itself holds memories. Whispers of sermons and hymns still echo within its walls. It’s a place of worship. A place of community. A place where faith is shared and celebrated.
The church’s history goes back further. Much further. To the Vancouver Mennonite Brethren Church in the late 1930s. A group of families and single women began meeting. They grew. They expanded. This led to the formation of Culloden. Culloden became one of several daughter churches. Many members of the Vancouver church joined Culloden. The new building was built in 1969.
Over the years Culloden had an international flavour. Services were held in English and German. The sanctuary was even used by Greek and Vietnamese congregations. English-as-a-second-language classes were offered.
The church’s story isn’t just one of buildings and congregations. It’s a story of people. Of faith. Of community. It’s a story of transformation. It’s a story that continues today at Midtown Church. Here on Culloden Street the spirit of community lives on. It’s a place of welcome. A place where all are invited to join. The Midtown Church story is one of renewal and growth.
